Gianluca Chiappini is Associate Professor in the scientific sector ING/IND-14, Area 09/A3 – Mechanical design and machine construction He graduated cum laude in Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Marche on 22/06/2006, discussing a thesis about on optical acquisition systems. He obtained the title of PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the Engineering Faculty of the Polytechnic University of Marche on 2009, discussing a thesis entitled “Development of optical techniques for shape and deformation measurement” Research fellow at the DIISM of the Polytechnic University of Marche from 2010 to 2013 and from 2013 to 2019 on sheet metal forming control and optical techniques for deformation measurement. From 2016 to 2020 contract professor at UNIVPM of the Mechanical Design course of the Mechanical Engineering course.

The main topic of the research activity is in the field of the Mechanical Design and Mechanics of Materials, with particular attention to deformation measurement with optical techniques, to modeling and characterization, static, dynamic and cyclical, of the mechanical properties of materials, both from theoretical point of view that through experimental tests and the analysis of structures using Finite Elements. The research activity carried out for the characterization of the materials was based on inverse calibration techniques, both analytical and numerical, and on the application of innovative methods such as the Virtual Fields Method.
